About the East Dunbartonshire Climate Action Hub

The East Dunbartonshire Climate Action Hub was established in December 2024, driven by a shared vision to create a sustainable and climate-resilient future for our community.

As one of 24 Scottish Government-funded Climate Action Hubs across the nation, we play a crucial role in supporting local initiatives and empowering residents to take meaningful climate action right here in East Dunbartonshire. We are dedicated to fostering collaboration, providing resources, and driving positive change to address the climate emergency.

Our Vision:

A just, resilient East Dunbartonshire where climate action is part of everyday life - led by communities, rooted in fairness, and driven by care for people and planet.

Our Mission:

To enable, support and empower diverse communities across East Dunbartonshire to take meaningful, community-led climate action- rooted in everyday life, driven by fairness, and shaped by local priorities.

  • Facilitate and support grassroots initiatives: By providing guidance, resources, and networking opportunities, we enable local projects to thrive and create tangible impact.

  • Raise awareness and educate the community: We strive to increase understanding of climate change and inspire positive behavioural changes through engaging events, workshops, and campaigns.

  • Advocate for sustainable policies: We work collaboratively with local authorities and stakeholders to influence decision-making and promote climate-friendly policies.

  • Build a strong and connected network: We foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among community groups, enabling them to work together towards a common goal.

We are guided by the following core values:

  • Community- led: We believe the most powerful climate action starts locally. Communities know their places, challenges, and strengths best - our role is to support, not dictate.

  • Climate Justice: Climate change is not just an environmental issue, but a social one. We centre fairness, inclusion, and equity, and work to ensure climate action benefits those most affected by the crisis.

  • Collaboration over competition: We build connections, not silos. By sharing knowledge, resources, and learning, we strengthen collective impact across East Dunbartonshire.

  • Action, not just talk: We value practical, visible action. From small projects, to collective initiatives, we support communities to turn concern into meaningful change.

  • Learning and growth: Climate action is evolving - and so are we. We create space for learning, experimentation, and reflection, building confidence and capacity along the way.

  • Diversity and representation: Strong Climate action reflects the full diversity of our communities. We actively work to involve voices that are often excluded from climate conversations and decision making.

Our Approach.

Our approach is simple: we enable, support, and empower communities to take climate action in ways that make sense for their lives and places.

Many people and organisations are already doing climate action - even if they don’t call it that. Whether its tackling fuel poverty, growing food, improving local spaces, supporting wellbeing, or strengthening community connections, this work matters.

We meet communities where they are, recognising existing strengths and priorities, and helping turn everyday action into collective impact.
